At the age of 94, composer Burt Bacharach passed away. Bacharach died Wednesday at his home in Los Angeles. His publicist, Tina Brausam, said Thursday that he died of natural causes.
The Oscar winner was famous for songs like “Walk on By” and “Do You Know the Way to San Jose.” Bacharach did well in many kinds of art.
He won eight Grammys, won a prize for writing the music for “Promises, Promises” on Broadway, and won three Oscars. In 1970, he won two Academy Awards for “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’s” score and “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head.”
In 1982, he and Carole Bayer Sager, who was his wife at the time, won an Oscar for “Best That You Can Do,” the theme song from “Arthur.”

He also did the music for the movies “What’s New, Pussycat?,” “Alfie,” and “Casino Royale,” a James Bond joke from 1967.
He wrote songs for Dionne Warwick, Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield, and Tom Jones, among others. His songs were often covered by Elvis Presley and others.
Sammy Cahn, a fellow songwriter, liked to joke that Bacharach, with his smile and wavy hair, was the first composer he had ever met who didn’t look like a dentist.
Bacharach was a “swinger,” which is what people called men like him at the time. He was married to actor Angie Dickinson from 1965 to 1980, and Sager was his wife from 1982 to 1991. He was married four times over the course of his life.
Bacharach was known for writing pop songs, but he also wrote tunes for rhythm and blues, soul, and other types of music. The composer has worked with the rapper Dr. Dre in recent years.
Bacharach’s fourth wife, Jane Hansen, and his three sons, Oliver, Raleigh, and Christopher, are the only people who still care about him. Nikki Bacharach, the daughter he had with Dickinson, died before him.
