However, KALB was able to confirm that the person who was shot by an RPSO deputy died in the event. In that announcement, RPSO made no mention of the condition of the person shot by law enforcement’s injuries or any other information on what caused the shooting.
LSP did respond to inquiries and share what was known about the investigation so far while on the scene at 4 p.m.
According to LSP Master Trooper Casey Wallace of Troop E, “State Police will be taking care of this crime scene, we’ll be performing the active investigation, and everything will be running through us.” To ensure that this is a very active, very thorough inquiry, “we’re going to do everything we can.”
The LSP’s Crime Scene Unit is travelling from Baton Rouge to Alexandria to help with the investigation, according to Master Trooper Wallace, who also mentioned that detectives are gathering body camera footage, eyewitness accounts, and other evidence to support their case.
“We’ll exert every effort to ensure that everything is appropriately logged. That’s what we’ll do if it takes us all night, stated Master Trooper Wallace. “We must be precise.”
The RPSO Sheriff Mark Wood, Rapides District Attorney Phillip Terrell, and APD Chief Ronney Howard joined LSP Superintendent Colonel Lamar Davis to discuss the shooting at roughly 5 o’clock.
Sheriff Wood stated that he received a text message on Sunday morning from a source that contained a picture of two young men going around Broadway Avenue and Seventh Street while carrying long magazines. Sheriff Wood then dispatched more patrol after receiving that message.
The man was pulled over during a traffic check by RPSO, which ultimately resulted to the fatal shooting, however it is unknown if the individual had any link to that original photo. The reason for the traffic stop has not been disclosed by law police.
