On Monday morning, police say that Anthony Graziano shot his ex-wife in Southern California. An Amber Alert was sent out saying that he and his 15-year-old daughter, Savannah, were on the run.
The next morning, someone saw his Nissan pickup and told the police. This led to a car chase that started and ended with gunfire, according to the police. During the fight, Graziano was killed. Deputies say that Graziano’s passenger was also killed when he got out of the car wearing “tactical gear” and ran toward the officers.

Investigators now think that person was Savannah, who is 15 years old. During a news conference on Tuesday afternoon, San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon Dicus said that the investigation is just getting started. He talked about a crime scene that was in more than one city and said several times that everything they know so far is just the beginning.
Dicus did not say who shot the shots that killed Savannah Graziano, but he did say that there were “signs” that the 15-year-old girl “may have also been involved in some of the fire exchange,” possibly “firing back at the deputies.”
The sheriff said that at least one gun, a rifle that was in the truck, was found at the scene of the last shootout. He said that a deputy was hurt by a piece of shrapnel, but his condition is stable.
The Fontana Police Department said in a statement Monday afternoon that the search for 45-year-old Anthony Graziano and his teenage daughter began when police heard gunshots around 7:30 a.m. near an elementary school in Fontana.
The school was temporarily put on lockdown. Officers found a woman who had been shot several times. She was taken to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The Associated Press said that Fontana police Sgt. Chris Surgent named the victim as Tracy Martinez, 45.
Fontana police called the shooting a “domestic violence incident” and said the suspect, Anthony Graziano, was “armed and dangerous” and most likely driving a white 2017 Nissan Frontier.
The California Highway Patrol sent out an Amber Alert saying that Savannah had been taken and that Graziano was last seen with her around the time of the Fontana shooting.
At about 10:25 a.m. on Tuesday, Graziano’s truck was seen west of Barstow. When the deputies arrived, a chase started, and Graziano started shooting. He “put several rounds through the windshield” of a patrol car, Dicus said.

As the chase went east on Highway 58 and then south on Interstate 15 toward Victorville, Graziano kept shooting at deputies the “whole time.” He shot a second police car and disabled it, said, Dicus. Dicus said that farther south, in Hesperia, Graziano drove off the road and stopped, then police officers from many different areas started shooting at him.
Dicus said that’s when a person wearing protective gear, such as a tactical helmet, got out of the car’s passenger side, ran toward sheriff’s deputies, and then fell in the middle of the gunfire. At that point, deputies “cleared” the car and found Anthony Graziano inside. When the deputies went to help the person in tactical gear, they realized, “This is Savannah.” They took her to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead just before noon, Dicus said.
“There may be some evidence that the passenger fired back at the deputies,” said Dicus. “And at this point, we’re still trying to find out if that’s true. Dicus said that authorities won’t have more information about the shooting for at least a day, but that “both Anthony Graziano and Savannah are dead.”
