According to a joint Instagram statement made on Friday, actor Reese Witherspoon and her talent agent husband Jim Toth are divorcing after nearly 12 years of marriage.
The pair wrote-
“It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce.”
“We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness and mutual respect for everything we have created together.”
According to a 2012 interview with Elle, Witherspoon revealed that she and Toth first met after he stopped a “very intoxicated guy” from hitting on her at a friend’s house. They tied the knot at Witherspoon’s property in Ojai, California, after being engaged in 2010.
(She was at the height of her affair with Toth when she was jailed for disorderly conduct after berating the Atlanta police officer who had just arrested Toth for DUI). Witherspoon and Toth have a son together, Tennessee James Toth, who is 10 years old.
The star also has two children from a previous marriage to Ryan Phillippe, Ava, 23, and Deacon, 19. According to People, a source has stated that Witherspoon and Toth are “the best of friends” and that their decision to divorce is “amicable.” The source also stated that the two are committed to their co-parenting relationship.
The pair’s joint statement continued-
“Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter” “We truly appreciate everyone’s respect for our family’s privacy at this time.”
