A megachurch leader from California and her parents have been detained on suspicion of murder and torture in connection with the death of the woman’s 11-year-old daughter. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, Leticia McCormack, a leader at the Miles McPherson-founded and -led Rock Church in San Diego, was arrested on Monday and charged with murder, three counts of torture, and three counts of willful cruelty to a child in connection with the death of Arabella McCormack.

McCormack’s leadership biography had been taken down from the megachurch’s website on Thursday. According to officials, Arabella was fostered at first before being adopted by Brian and Leticia McCormack. According to a department news release, the 75-year-old Stanley Tom, the father of the 49-year-old church leader, was also charged with murder, three charges of torture, and three counts of wilful cruelty to a child. Adella Tom, Arabella’s grandma, was arrested on three counts of torture and three counts of wilful cruelty to a child. She is 70 years old.
‘Severe levels Of Malnourishment’
According to the news release, deputies discovered Arabella at a property in Spring Valley, in the county’s eastern region, on August 30 after responding to a call about a kid in danger. The 11-year-old was taken to the hospital in a hurry, where, according to the release, her condition deteriorated and she passed away.
Police suspected child abuse, they claimed. A police official told The San Diego Union-Tribune that the girl had “extreme degrees of malnourishment” and was covered in bruises. Deputies made contact with the girl’s father, Brian McCormack, who lived close to the family’s house, during the inquiry.
He committed suicide in front of them, according to the press statement. According to the press statement, Arabella had two sisters, now residing with a foster family, who were 6 and 7 years old.

A representative for the Rock Church told USA TODAY on Thursday that Leticia McCormack started working with the organization in 2013 and has worked in a variety of positions, including administrative work, event planning, and other ministry activities. The spokesman added that her ordination at Rock Church had already been put on hold and was currently being revoked as of Thursday.
