The WGA strike is still going on. However, the production of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” on Amazon Prime Video will continue despite the absence of executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay.

Variety has confirmed that the expansive fantasy series has 19 days of filming left. However, due to WGA strike regulations, Payne, McKay, and other writer-producers are prohibited from taking part in any writing-related tasks during production. The strike is still in effect, including making decisions on set.

Instead, the show’s non-writing executive producers, directors, and crew are in charge of the U.K. sh00t, including Charlotte Brändström, Sanaa Hamri, and Louise Hooper. Given its feature-film level scope, “Rings of Power” has reportedly been filming with multiple units, including night shoots, for a significant portion of the season.

Rings of Power Will Wrap Its Season 2 Filming Despite the Writers Strike

To ensure their absence from the program would be as seamless as possible, Payne and McKay prepared with the production staff for potential writers’ strike ahead of time. The June 30 contract deadline for SAG-AFTRA and the DGA adds pressure on all ongoing motion picture and television productions.

If those guilds and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers cannot agree on a new contract by that time, actors and directors may decide to join the writers’ strike, which would result in an even more severe shutdown of the entire industry.

For its second, eight-episode season, “The Rings of Power” moved production from New Zealand to the U.K. on October 3, 2022. Brändström is a co-executive producer together with Callum Greene, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, and Gennifer Hutchison.

The Rings of Power had 25 million viewers in the first 24 hours after its debut on Amazon, making it the company’s most successful premiere ever. See the tweet:

Producers Kate Hazell and Helen Shang are also involved. Co-producers include Clare Buxton, Matthew Penry-Davey, and Andrew Lee. If you are interested in reading further articles similar to this one, you can visit our website News Conduct at any time.
