    He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and he liked entertainment from a young age. As he grew up there, he became known for putting on live dances. Because he liked to be entertained, he started his own radio show. In the 1960s, he introduced a lot of people to acts like the Four Seasons and the Isley Brothers.

    Blavat, Jared Weinstein, and Jerry Greene started the Lost Nite and Crimson record labels in the 1960s. Together, the three of them also owned Record Museum, a Philadelphia-based chain of record stores that is no longer in business.He also owned a nightclub called “Memories” in Margate, New Jersey. Blavat made and hosted a weekly TV show in Philadelphia called The Discophonic Scene from 1965 to 1967.

    He was a guest star on The Mod Squad, The Monkees, The Tonight Show, and The Joey Bishop Show, among others. Jerry Blavat also had roles in movies like “Desperately Seeking Susan,” “Baby It’s You,” and “Cookie.”Because of what he did to help music grow in Philadelphia, he was inducted into the Philadelphia Music Alliance’s Hall of Fame in 1993. In 1998, he became a permanent part of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Museum of Radio and Records, which is also in Philadelphia.

    Blavat was again added to the “Hall of Fame” of the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia in 2002. In a poll of Philadelphia magazine readers in 2018, he was chosen as the “Best Philly Icon.”As of 2020, he was a DJ for oldies radio station WVLT (FM) 92.1 in South Jersey, for the University of Pennsylvania’s public radio station WXPN in Philadelphia, for radio stations WTKU-FM and WOND in Atlantic City, for WBCB (AM) in Bucks County and Trenton, and for WISL (AM) in Shamokin, Pennsylvania.

    In 2020, Blavat added the internet radio station Tyme 102.9 WTYM-DB in Zephyrhills, Florida, to his radio network. On January 15, 2020, he was on the radio for the 60th year in a row. He was a big part of getting oldies music played on the radio.

    Jerry Blavat Cause Of Death

    On Friday, January 20, 2023, at the age of 82, he died at the Jefferson-Methodist Hospital. Blavat’s website says he has been having health problems due to a shoulder injury. He had to cancel a show at the Kimmel Cultural Campus because of his health. At the time this report was written; however, Jerry Blavat’s cause of death hadn’t been made public.
