Irene Cara, who was best known for her work acting in the 1980s movie Fame, in which she also performed the theme song, and for winning the Oscar for the theme song in 1983’s Flashdance, died of high cholesterol and hypertension, according to both her publicist, Judith A. Moose, and the medical examiner in Florida’s Pinellas County, who confirmed this information to Yahoo Entertainment. Cara suffered from arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease (also known as cholesterol and plaque buildup in the arteries), hypertensive cardiovascular disease (which is caused by high blood pressure), and diabetes was a contributing condition, according to the findings of the office that oversees medical examinations. It was stated that death occurred as a result of natural causes.

Cara, age 63, passed away on November 25 at her home. The unfortunate news was disseminated over many platforms by Moose.

“She was a beautifully gifted soul whose legacy will live forever through her music and films,” she wrote after requesting that Cara’s family be given their privacy. She also mentioned that an announcement regarding a memorial service for Cara’s supporters would be made at a later time.

As of the 26th of January, a message from the official Twitter account of the late actress provided a response to a fan who had speculated that Cara was still alive because to the lack of information regarding a public memorial service.

“While I would love nothing more than for that to be true, unfortunately, it’s not,” the post read. “I’m currently waiting for word from venues I’ve contacted to book her public memorial. It is being tentatively scheduled for March 18th (her birthday). I’ll share more updates as they’re available.”

She also won a Golden Globe and two Grammys, in addition to the Oscar she got for “Flashdance… What a Feeling.”
