Co-Founders Of Instagram Introduce The “Artifact” News App

Former Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger have launched a new business. Their first offering, Artifact, is a personalized news feed that uses AI to reflect your interests and also includes the ability to have conversations with friends.

Artifact Is Being Described As A Text-Based Version Of TikTok

People are comparing Artifact to a text-based TikTok or a mobile Google Reader, which can also be considered a Twitter rival.

The app provides well-liked articles pulled from trustworthy news sources and specialized blogs. When you tap on themes you are interested in, Artifact will display more of that type of content in the future, gradually changing its algorithm to function more like TikTok’s “For You” page.

    Idea Behind Artifact

Systrom and Krieger talked about the concept for Artifact a few years back. After working at Instagram, Systrom developed a different perspective on the capabilities of machine-learning systems to enhance recommendations.

He observed that things considerably improved each time machine learning was employed to enhance the customer experience.

Systrom claims that Artifact is dedicated to giving its readers news and information of the highest caliber. To do this, the business will only include publishers that uphold editorial standards of quality and will delete specific pieces that spread untruths.

To favor interesting content, machine-learning systems will be adjusted to monitor how much time users spend reading about various topics as opposed to what gets the most views and comments.

Together with a team of seven people that includes Robby Stein, a former top product executive at Instagram, Systrom, and Krieger are now funding Artifact themselves. It is anticipated that investors will shortly be looking to participate in the business.

    Artifact In Beta Testing

The primary ranking feed will be the only thing users who join from the waitlist first see. However, two other elements that will probably be critical components of the software are being tested by Artifact beta users.

These include a direct message inbox for private conversations with friends about the posts being read and a feed displaying articles and commentary provided by followed users (although it is currently unable to upload the raw text without a link).
