Microsoft has informed fans that Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden will be hitting the Xbox and PC Game Pass service this month in a message published to the Xbox News site this morning.

The cherry on top of Microsoft’s Xbox Showcase last year was the declaration that both games would be converted to modern systems and made available on Xbox Game Pass. The Game Pass release of Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden is scheduled for January 19, the same day as its multi-platform launch.

This comes after Persona 5 Royal’s multi-platform release from the previous year, debuting on Xbox Game Pass on its first day. Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden will offer console, PC, and cloud support whenever they are introduced to the service, just like the Game Pass edition of Persona 5 Royal does.

This means the games will be accessible via the cloud through Xbox Game Pass on all compatible consoles, PC systems, and mobile devices. Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden have notoriously been inaccessible to gamers of contemporary platforms up to this point.

Persona 3 Portable was initially launched on the PlayStation Portable in 2009 and was later added to the PlayStation Vita via the PSN. Up until now, only this game version has been made available for purchase.

Similar to Persona 4 Golden, which debuted in 2012 on the PlayStation Vita and was only available on that device for eight years before being made available on PC via Steam in 2020.

Not to mention the original Persona 3 and Persona 4 (note the absence of the captions “Portable” and “Golden”), all of which were made available only for the PlayStation 2 in the 2000s.

Atlus decided to create enhanced versions of these games for portable PlayStation consoles. In the case of Persona 4, PC, years later, released the games we now know as Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden.

These enhanced versions have never been verbatim ported to other consoles. Since practically all copies of Persona 3 and Persona 4 have been stuck on outdated systems for more than 10 years, Atlus’ decision to port the games to Xbox Game Pass and more recent consoles may be a surprise.

Still, fans of the well-known franchise will undoubtedly applaud the move. On January 19 of this year, Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden will be added to Xbox Game Pass. Both games will be made available digitally on the same day for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, and Nintendo Switch.
