A Long Beach High School hockey player lost his life in a Hicksville vehicle accident involving a skateboarder.

The teen’s identity has not yet been released by Nassau County police, however, the Islanders Nassau County High School Hockey League has revealed that he is 18-year-old Gerrin Hagen.

According to the police, Hagen was skating on Cantiague Lane near Robbins Lane on Thursday afternoon when a 2012 Honda Pilot being operated by a 19-year-old struck him. Hagen was taken to a hospital in a hurry, where his condition was first described as critical; however, the next day, he was declared dead.

Long Beach schools chief Jennifer Gallagher wrote to parents, “I express my profound condolences and sympathy to the Hagen family and to all of Gerrin’s friends.” “Gerrin was a fantastic student, a gifted athlete, and a friend to a great number of people, as many in our community are aware. His passing leaves a huge hole in our school’s community.”

According to Gallagher, the school district has activated its crisis response plan, and counselors were on hand Friday afternoon to speak with any pupils. They will continue to be on hand as needed during the ensuing weeks.

Additionally, the district provides drop-in facilities at Lindell School and Long Beach High School on Sunday and Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Please feel free to come, Gallagher wrote, “if you think your child might benefit from talking to someone about this loss over the weekend—or just being together with friends.” Of course, the Long Island Crisis Center is a fantastic resource if you think your child needs emergency help or is in a serious crisis at any time.
