HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, N.J. – A 20-year-old man was shot to death in the Hopewell Valley Nature Preserve, and two teenagers from Mercer County have been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the incident.

According to the authorities, a 16-year-old from Pennington and a 17-year-old from the town of Hopewell were arrested on Friday afternoon. They have been charged with murder, felony murder, robbery, and weapons charges.

The victim, who was identified as 20-year-old Philip Urban from Manalapan, was enticed to the preserve by the teenagers, according to the officials, to rob Urban of a quarter pound of marijuana that was worth approximately $800.

Following the robbery, the adolescents allegedly opened fire and murdered Urban. This is according to the authorities. When police arrived, they discovered Urban slouched over inside a vehicle.

He was transported to the Capital Health Regional Medical Center, but he did not survive his stay there. Because of their young age, the identity of the teenagers are being kept secret.

The Prosecutor’s Office in Mercer County is currently investigating whether or not it would be appropriate to seek a waiver to adult court. Both have been taken into custody and are currently held at the Middlesex County Youth Detention Center.
