How did Sonia Eddie die: Actress Sonya Eddy, well-known for her portrayal of General Hospital’s Epiphany Johnson, passed away on Monday at 55.

Oscar actress Octavia Spencer took to Instagram on Tuesday to share the news of her close friend’s passing. “Another imaginative angel has died. Her many admirers at @generalhospitalabc will be sad to see her go. My heart goes to her family, friends, and loyal followers.”

Frank Valentini, General Hospital’s executive producer, said in a statement obtained by EW, “I am heartbroken by the passing of the amazing Sonya Eddy.” “As a person, I adored her and liked her work as an actress. Her light may have dimmed in the nurses’ station’s central core, but it will continue to shine in the show and on our set.”

According to Valentini, “Our hearts break for her loved ones and fans of General Hospital on behalf of everyone involved. Many people will miss her greatly.”

Epiphany Johnson, played by Eddy, is the no-nonsense head nurse at the Port Charles hospital and the mother of the late Stan Johnson (Kiko Ellsworth), who was killed after getting involved with the mob. Eddy is a real-life licensed vocational nurse who joined General Hospital in 2006. A spinoff of General Hospital, Night Shift aired for two seasons in 2007, with her reprising her role.
