According to reports, a nonagenarian Iranian man who was known as the “world’s dirtiest” passed only a few months after taking his first shower in more than 70 years.

Amou Haji, often known as “Uncle Haji,” was 94 years old when he passed away on Sunday in Dezhgah village in the southern province of Fars, according to the Iranian news agency IRNA.

He has avoided taking baths for more than fifty years for a variety of reasons.

The surrounding villagers, on the other hand, thought the hermit had experienced “emotional setbacks in his adolescence” that may have produced some form of trauma that prompted him to refuse to bathe, even by water. Local officials stated that Haji, who was unmarried, avoided showering out of fear of “becoming sick.”

When his neighbours once attempted to bathe him in the nearby river, Haji pushed himself out of the car after realising the trip’s aim.

He was frequently observed wandering the streets, covered in soot, and residing in a cinder-block shanty that the neighborhood’s residents had constructed.

The 94-year-old recluse would consume decaying corpses to stay alive because he thought fresh food may make him ill.

The Tehran Times stated in 2014 that he would puff on a pipe stuffed with animal waste. and was also seen puffing on multiple cigarettes at once.

Haji’s funeral is set for Tuesday night in Farashband City, Fars, according to local media.

After Haji’s death, a 67-year-old Indian man from western Maharashtra state who had also not taken a bath in more than 30 years would have the unofficial title of “world’s dirtiest man.”
