WIT.N. – JACKSONVILLE, NC Following a shooting this afternoon, three schools in Jacksonville went into lockdown.

According to Onslow County Schools, the Jacksonville Police Department called the school system and instructed them to lock down all Commons Drive schools.

Police in Jacksonville say that at 12:20 p.m., they responded to Affordable Suites on McDaniel Drive after receiving reports of a shooting and found two people who had been shot.

Both victims were reportedly transported to Camp Lejeune Naval Medical Center. Their identities will remain concealed until they have been officially notified of their loved ones. Neither a suspect nor any information about one was mentioned by police.

Jacksonville Commons Elementary School, Jacksonville Commons Middle School, and Northside High School were reportedly the three institutions placed on lockdown, according to WITN.

Brent Anderson, the school district’s spokesman, said the lockdown lasted only 15 minutes and that the schools were deemed safe by 1 p.m. The three are near the scene of the shooting, which is less than a mile away.

On September 1, a student was stabbed to death at Northside High School, and another was injured. After further investigation, police reported filing juvenile petitions against three teens. The police report that the shooting from today is still being looked into.
