Taylor Hawkins had a strong intuition that Miley Cyrus would “kill” a cover of “Photograph,” a great song from Def Leppard’s Pyromania album that was released in 1983. We are certain that he was correct since Miley did exactly that on Tuesday (September 27) during the mega-star tribute to the late Foo Fighters drummer at the Kia Forum.

There, she joined the legendary British glam rock band for a blazing rendition of one of the band’s defining hits. We also know this because, on September 28th, Miley released an adorable old voicemail that she had saved from Taylor in which he encouraged her to give the pop-metal song a go.

“A direct appeal from the legend himself,” the message read. Cyrus took to Twitter to pay tribute to Hawkins, writing, “#TaylorHawkins my friend, my idol… My neighbor.” Hawkins passed away on March 25 at the age of 50 while on tour with the Foo Fighters in Bogotá, Colombia.

He was on tour with the band at the time of his death. “While I was growing up on a farm, I never had the opportunity to see the light of another house nearby. However, the years that I spent living by Taylor in Los Angeles were some of the most enjoyable days of my life.” “What’s going on, Miley? The name is Taylor.

I’ve been told that you’re moving. Waaah!,” Hawkins says about Cyrus leaving his area on the scratchy recording that does not have a date attached to it. “At the moment, Def Leppard’s “Photograph” is playing in the background. You might be able to take care of that one.” In a subsequent tweet, Miley stated, “Just like everyone else, I miss Taylor so much.

Last night’s performance with Def Leppard was a fantastic way to honor him, and we had a blast doing it. I feel very blessed to not only have known him in his role as a celebrity but also to have had the opportunity to observe him in his roles as a father and a spouse.

And of course, Hawkins was completely right, as Miley Cyrus absolutely crushed “Photograph” at the tribute show alongside Leppard singer Joe Elliott and guitarist Phil Collen, as well as Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl and band guitarists Pat Smear and Chris Shiflett and Weezer drummer Pat Wilson. Cyrus wore a short black dress and black sunglasses, and her sun-kissed blonde hair flowed freely.
