A School Shooting In Oakland, California, Has Left At Least Six People Injured

Officials say at least six people were injured in a shooting at an Oakland school on Wednesday. Lt. Ray Kelly, a spokesman for the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, said the crime scene was “no longer active.”

The Oakland Fire Department’s spokesman, Michael Hunt, said that six people had been taken to the hospital by paramedics, all of whom had been shot. The mayor of Oakland, Libby Schaaf, tweeted that the victims were all adults and that the shooting took place at the alternative K-12 school Sojourner Truth Independent Study.

The authorities did not specify whether or not any of the victims were adults or college-aged youth. According to authorities, three of the injured were taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland where they were listed in critical condition, while the other three were transported to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley where they were listed in unknown condition.

The Oakland Unified School District’s spokesman, John Sasaki, said in a statement that they “do not have any information beyond what Oakland Police are reporting.” Despite sharing a block with three other schools, he claimed that the Sojourner Truth Independent Study headquarters was empty.

Students were seen leaving nearby schools as police taped off the street and parked dozens of vehicles in front of the building. Treva Reid, a member of the city council, has reported that investigators have told her the shooting may be related to increasing “group and gang violence.” Capt.

Casey Johnson of the Oakland Police Department held a brief news conference in which he confirmed the shooting of six people but avoided answering reporters’ questions. Outside the school, City Council Member Loren Taylor told KTVU-TV, “Guns were on our school campuses where our babies were supposed to be protected.” Taylor, however, refused to confirm any details of the incident.
